11  More Regression Review

Settling In

  • Sit with your assigned group
  • Catch up on any posts you’ve missed on Slack
  • Turn in your Capstone Reflection (bring to the front table)
  • Review your HW3 feedback
  • Find the google doc I recently shared with you called STAT 253 - Learning Reflection 1 - Your Name (and let me know ASAP if you don’t have one!)

Notes: Preparing for Quiz 1

Logistics

Content:

Format:

  • Two parts: Part 1 focused on concepts, Part 2 focused on code
  • On paper, closed notes*, individual
    • *I’ll give you a notesheet for Part 2 with a list of common function names (e.g., augment(), set_mode()), but not an explanation of what the functions do.
  • Questions will range in style: multiple choice, fill in the blank, short response, matching, etc.
    • Part 2: mix of questions that will ask you to fill in the blank (with a function name) to “write” code and questions that will give you code and ask you what it’s doing

UPDATE: I’ll give you both parts, stapled together into a single packet, at the beginning of class. You can choose how you want to divide your time between the two parts.

    • Resources: HW3 Exercise 4, tidymodels code comparison, R Code Notes in course manual
  • Come to office hours (mine and preceptors)!

Learning Reflection 1

As promised, here are some more detailed instructions about your first of three learning reflections.

  • Find the google doc titled “STAT 253 - Learning Reflection 1 - Your Name” that I recently shared with you. (It should look like this: link)
  • Over the next week, spend 1–2 hours responding to the questions contained within that document.
  • Submit a link to your completed reflection on Moodle by end-of-day next Tuesday, March 11

Exercises

Use the rest of class time today to work on Group Assignment 1!

A few suggestions/reminders:

  • Before submitting, review the Group Assignment Instructions (posted on Moodle) carefully and ensure that you’ve included all of the requested information in the appropriate section
  • For more details on how the assignment will be graded: review the Group Assignment Rubric (also linked on Moodle)
  • Submit one report per group, using the provided template, on Moodle
  • Deadline: end-of-day tomorrow, March 5

FYI:

  • For the next ~1.5 weeks of class, sit wherever you want!
  • Next Tuesday, I will have a short “Collaboration Reflection Survey” for you to complete to reflect on the effectiveness of your GA1 collaboration and provide feedback to help me pick your group for GA2

Wrapping Up

After class today, please work on the following:

  • finish Group Assignment 1
  • study for Quiz 1
  • start Learning Reflection 1
